Arapahoe Receives Two Grant Awards

Over the past several months, the City of Arapahoe has been working with Five Rule out of Kearney on two grant applications.

The first grant that the City of Arapahoe applied for was through the Nebraska Investment Finance Authority (NIFA) Housing Study Grant Program. The Housing Study Grant Program is used to stimulate ideas for comprehensive development plans encompassing housing, community, and economic development opportunities in Nebraska. Arapahoe was awarded this $2500 grant and will conduct a housing study in late spring of 2021.

The second grant that the City of Arapahoe applied for this year was through the Community Development Block Grant Program. The federal Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) program provides funding for community and economic development projects to encourage additional federal, state, and private resources. Communities receiving CDBG funds can use those grants to provide safe and sanitary housing, a suitable living environment, and expanded economic opportunities. Through this program, Arapahoe has received a $43,000 grant that will be used to conduct a downtown revitalization study. This study is needed to strategically determine how to bring innovation and creativity to our downtown area in the future. A few items that this could be used for include sidewalks, lighting, water and sewer lines to business, façade improvements, and many other things to improve the functionality and beauty of our downtown for years to come. You can read the news release here.

Arapahoe is eager to partner with these organizations to bring meaningful change to our community!
